Welcome to Issue 60 of the 11ty Bundle. 11ty, aka Eleventy, is a "simpler static site generator" that is designed to be simple, flexible, and highly customizable. It is built on Node.js and allows developers to create websites by transforming templates and data into static HTML files. It supports multiple template languages, giving developers the freedom to choose the languages that best suit the needs of their project.

A note from Bob:

We're heading out of the country for a few weeks. We depart on US Election Day. As a result, the next issue will most likely appear in early December. Keep your eye on the firehose for mid-issue posts and the home page for new releases and sites.

We Meetup'd. At the recent Eleventy Meetup, Cory Dransfeldt showed us how he built his self-hosted music tracker, and Sia Karamalegos showed us how she generates social share images using Cloudinary for her site. Those titly links will take you to their respective recordings. Sign up for the newsletter to get notified of the next meetup.

Migrate from WP to 11ty. New in the 11ty docs is a page on Migrating from WordPress to Eleventy. If you're looking to make the switch, this can get you started.

A fetch refresh. There's a new release of the eleventy-fetch plugin. That links to release notes for all the recent releases. beta.2 has most of the changes, but we're up to beta.4 as some bugs were found and fixed.

11ty arrives in Wikipedia. Just when you thought Wikipedia had everything it could possibly have, Eleventy has entered the chat.

Clayton's GitHub action. Clayton Errington has created a nice GitHub action for deploying your Eleventy site to GitHub Pages.

Adding steroids to Eleventy's log filter. dwkns (I don't know his real name) has released eleventy-plugin-console-plus. Billed as "Eleventy's log filter on steroids," this looks like a great tool to aid in your debugging efforts.

Until next time...

Building an album releases calendar subscription

As part of tracking the music I listen to I also keep track of upcoming albums. When I add an album, I also have fields for release dates and links.

Open Graph Metadata and Images in Eleventy Made Easy

Blog posts are meant to be shared. When sharing links, you'll often see a preview on social media and instant messengers. But how does it work and how can you do it with Eleventy?

11ty meetup: Tracking and displaying music history

I got to speak at the 11ty meetup today about the music tracking contraption I've built into my site. I have a fairly detailed post on how I built it and another on the method I'm using to render dynamic media (read: musician/band) pages.

Dynamic pages with 11ty and Cloudflare workers

I was rendering about 3300 pages every time my 11ty site built — probably overkill. About 615 artist pages, 1200+ movie pages, 500 show pages, 500 for books and ~35 for genres. Whew. Build times hovered at about a minute (still very impressive!) but would only ever increase.

Responsive, Self-hosted Images for Your Eleventy Blog

While you can certainly host your image files with the Git repo your Eleventy site is checked into, or add them manually after building it, neither option is ideal if you want responsive images in multiple formats to save precious bandwidth.

Building a Blog with Eleventy (blind, any%)

I recently felt like getting back into blogging. But setting up and maintaining WordPress felt like more than I was looking for. I was looking for something much simpler. Preferably file-based and with Markdown support. That was my introduction to Eleventy.
